100% Shea Butter Lip Balm
There’s something slightly absurd about how complicated lip balm has become.
Most balms contain:
- waxes
- oils
- emollients
- flavor systems
- preservatives
- stabilizers
- synthetic texture modifiers
And sometimes all at once!
Why Shea Butter Works Well on Lips
Shea butter is naturally rich in triglycerides and fatty acids that help reduce transepidermal water loss (TEWL). In short, it helps lips stay from drying out as quickly.
Most lip balms try to engineer texture first. But I asked a different question: What’s the minimum needed for the product to still work well?
Turns out, not much.
Texture Notes
Because there are no added waxes or texture modifiers, Dollop feels different than conventional lip balm. At room temperature, shea butter stays relatively firm. On contact, it softens quickly with body heat.
That change in texture is natural. Nothing is added to standardize or artificially stabilize it.
Why Put It in a Tube?
Most pure shea butter products come in jars or tins because the ingredient itself is somewhat temperature sensitive. But for lip application, tins are inconvenient enough that people stop using them consistently. From my experience, you're not always ready and willing to dig in a balm tin with your finger to apply it your lips.
The tube solved that problem while bringing it back to the basics.
