Single Ingredient Lip Balm
There are two approaches to making lip balm:
- Adding ingredients until the product feels and behaves how you want.
- Removing ingredients until only the necessary ones remain.
Dollop takes the second approach.
One Ingredient
The entire formula is 100% shea butter. No supporting ingredients. No “base.” No texture system built around it.
Why Keep It This Simple?
Simple, natural product with simple ingredient lists are easier to understand and (not so surprisingly) a decent number of people are trying to troubleshoot reactions to lip products without knowing where to start.
When ingredient lists become long and complicated, isolating a problem ingredient turns into guesswork.
I wanted to remove most of the variables.
What Dollop Does NOT Try To Be
We're not trying to imitate the glossy conventional lip balm or a specific texture or flavor that people are used to.
There's no scent, no flavor, and it's not whipped to have a more cosmetic feel. The goal was functionality and simplicity, not performance theater.
Why Shea Butter Specifically?
Shea butter naturally contains a balance of fatty acids that create a protective, moisturizing barrier without needing additional waxes or oils. It does a pretty great job all by itself.
Most of the work here was deciding not to interfere with it.
